PERSONAL GEAR LIST – BACKPACKING IN PATAGONIA

The best way to stay comfortable on any active adventure is going lightweight.  Wearing the right versatile layers will insure a system with great ventilation and maximum protection in any condition. The items will give you the best chance for comfort and protection during your traverse in Patagonia against all conditions.

Backpack & Sleeping

  • Backpack 60 or + liters capacity for backpacking trips in tents. Mountain Hut Traverses a 35 or + Liters is ok.
  • 0* Celsius  Sleeping Bag w/compression sack or warmer bag for Mountain Hut traverses.
  • Sleeping Mat (only in tents)
  • Half-pad for sitting outside the tent (opt)

Footwear

  • 1 Hiking Boots waterproof and sturdy (running trail shoes are NOT recommended when hiking with a large backpack)
  • 1 Tennis shoes or Crocks for relaxing after hikes.
  • 3-4 Whool/synthetic warm socks.
  • Sock liners. (opt.)
  • Gaiters.(opt)

Bottom Layers

  • 1 Hiking shorts / swimming wear. (opt.)
  • 1 Hiking pants (soft-shell material is the best!)
  • 1 Long underwear / mid-weight.
  • 1 Wind pants or Rain Pants
  • 2-3 Underwear.
  • 1 Belt (opt.)

Top Layers

  • 1 or 2 T-shirts. (one long sleeves and one short)
  • 1 Synthetic Long-sleeved shirts. (for sun protection)
  • 1 Light / mid weight Fleece pullover (R-1 Patagonia i.e.)
  • 1 Fleece jacket or puffy jacket. (insulation layer)
  • 1 Waterproof / breathable jacket.
  • Fleece or Puffy vest (opt.)

Head & Hands

  • Wool hat
  • Sun hat
  • Fleece / wool globes
  • Buff or balaclava(opt)
  • Sunglases with holders (chums)

Others

  • 1-1,5 liter capacity in water bottle and or Camel-Back hydration system
  • 0,5 liter Nalgene or similar hard water bottle (Opt.)
  • Eating utensils + Tupperware or bowl for eating (only for camping trips)
  • 3 Large/medium Trash bags (only for camping trips)
  • 2 Nylon Stuff sacks different sizes for organizing your gear (only for camping trips)
  • 1 Headlamp w/ batteries
  • 1–2 Trekking poles (opt.)
  • Camera w/ extra batteries (Opt.)
  • Sun block and lip balm.
  • Energy bars, hard candy, snacks, chocolates or the any extra Goodies you preferred! (Opt.)
  • 1 Lighter
  • Personal meds, etc. (Guide will have a complete first aid kit)
  • Toiletries: Toothbrush and toothpaste, Hand sanitizer and other personal toiletry items. (keep it light!)

IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS LISTING IS FOR BACKPACKING TRIPS, in case your trip is using the Mountain Huts,your backpack can be smaller, your sleeping bag less warm and all eating utensils and insulation pad for sleeping not necessary.  WINTER MOUNTAIN HUT TRAVERSE considerations: Trekking boots need to be waterproof, warmer trekking pants, 2 pairs of gloves and some extra layers such as a warmer bse layer for legs.
